Our story

Salsa Peligrosa dance choir was formed in 2007 from a group of friends. The team started out as a rueda de casino formation but nowadays deals also with the choreography and performance of afro-cuban and other latin-sourced dances.

Through a whole lot of collective practicing, including finding out, learning and clarifying new moves did the team reach its current level. This ensured that we are now regularly invited to national and international events such as festivals and contests. These are the most important events in our lives as on these venues we have the chance to learn authentic elements and styles from native Cuban teachers through which can get closer to authenticity. Our primary motive till this very day is still continuous improvement and learning.

Our members come from all different areas of life; it is the love of dancing which creates the cohesion among us. We practice together almost every day, which yielded this hobby of ours to become a major part of our lives.

Our group is a perfect example for a mixture of friendly collaboration, hard work and well-deserved fun-time.

“When you see us dancing, you hear the sound of our hearts…”

What is salsa?

Salsa originates from Cuba where the hopeless economical situation made the musicians emigrate to New York. They have brought along their own music and style which other Latin-American nations have taken over and have mixed with their own. This mixed style is what is called Salsa.

The meaning of the word ’Salsa’ is sauce which refers to the mixture of spices, in this particular case of rhythms (son, mambo, cha-cha, descarga, guaracha , rumba).

In today’s modern salsa different styles have evolved: Colombian, Los Angeles, New York, Cuban, Puerto Rican. We in particular deal with Cuban salsa.

Cuban salsa is an instinctive, non-disciplinary, playful kind of dance, which in Hungary started to spread in the early 90’s.

Rueda de casino

When a group of people dance salsa in a team it is called Rueda. The pairs form a circle and couples do the moves in synch based on the instructions of the leader. The interesting part in particular is when there is a move during which the couples change. That is one of the significant characteristics of Rueda which makes it even more spectacular.
